2026-2027
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION 2026-2027 theme and Service Project. Our VBS and Sunday School theme this year is “Passport for Jesus” highlighting the disciples travel and preaching the Gospel. "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." — 1 John 3:18 Missionary work is simply sharing the quiet, gentle love of Jesus right where we are . We have a special opportunity to care for local students and families by gathering basic everyday essentials—which will be hygiene products as the Sunday School classes “missionary project.” Sometimes the smallest items can make the biggest difference in a person’s day. ( Christian Education will collect Hygiene Items to donate to Fairbanks Schools through Rally Day, Sept 13. Items needed include: Sunscreen undergarments for high school students Hygiene products - toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant (women) ,tampons non-perishable food items in cans (not beans) Crackers - goldfish individual packs, beef sticks
FELC Generosity Campaign
Our Fall Stewardship Campaign kicks off Mid-September. Plan to attend Sunday Mornings to learn more, but read ahead below now to look ahead to this campaign. WHY ESTIMATE GIVING? Estimate of Giving, Plan for Giving, Faith Commitment, Promise, Covenant or whatever you call it; it is important in the life of our church today. The rapid change taking place in the world and the needs of the world make it very important that I develop a plan for proportionate giving to and through my church, write down my weekly intention, and put my name to it…. Because I need to make plans at least once each year to grow in my giving and manage to the best of my ability the dollar resources with which God has blessed me. Because God gives me the grace to give, and that grace moves me to make a firm commitment to my church – contributing a portion of my time, talents and financial blessings for our Lord’s mission and ministry. Because in estimating my giving I make an effort to show just how much God is the God of my life, and in growing in my commitment each year I give external evidence of my internal priorities. I put God first. I risk in faith. I trust in God to provide. Because God has asked for my commitment – not just that I give – but that I be committed to justice and mercy and faith in all the world. As a Christian, my estimate of giving is foundational to all ministry and helps my church plan for and provide such programs of ministry. Because God is important in my life and my personal support of our Lord’s ministry is a way to make a difference in the world. Because Christians lead by example. Jesus set the example for me to follow in stewardship. If Christ was not afraid to be nailed to the cross for me, I certainly am not afraid to affix my name to an estimate of giving for his work. It is an outward expression of my love for him. Because I know that the discipline of making an estimate and sticking to it is in direct respond to a loving God who paid his life to me, in full, on Calvary. Because the programs for ministry that my congregation and my church at large provide for me and my family are important in our life, and anything so important takes planning and commitment. Because I do not believe that any Church Council can make meaningful decisions concerning ministry without first knowing what can be expected in support of those ministries. Because in my estimate I commit freely and openly. It is neither legal nor legally binding. It expresses my hopes and cares for the programs of ministry that proclaim Christ’s love for the world. And Because it enables me to be truly intentional about my own personal stewardship. I can prayerfully consider what God is calling me to give to the ministry of Christ’s Church and make a conscientious decision about my response.
World Mission Prayer League: Weekly Focus
September 6, Pray for Harvest Workers. Lord of the harvest, bless your harvest workers with a great bounty! The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matthew 9:37-38 September: school begins, the leaves turn and begin to drop, the harvest is ready. And, yes, the harvest IS ready. For decades the Prayer League has operated with the assurance from Jesus that "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." (Luke 10:2 ESV) Our prayers are beginning to be answered in many tangible ways. There are eight (8!) young adults enrolled in the Discipleship House, living in community at the Prayer League this semester. It is the most that can be accommodated at this point. Kari Hilpert, the Candidate Coordinator for the Prayer League, reports that she has had the most inquiries into mission opportunities this past year than she has ever dealt with. We rejoice at how God is working in the hearts of his people. Our Unreached People Group focus this month is on the Sama people in the southern Philippines. This is the same people group that we once referred to as the Sea Gypsies. You may know that Ruth Schroeder comes from that people group and has been working on the Bible translation team for many years. We continue to pray with the Schroeders for breakthrough into the work in the southern Philippines.
2027Leadership Nominations
2027 Upcoming Leadership Nominations at Nov 8 Congregational Meeting: Nominations for officers to fill our 2027 slate of candidates will take place on November 8. The following criteria must be met in order for you to be qualified for an office. Per Chapter 8, Membership, of the church constitution: Be a member of this congregation 1) By baptism, 2) By transfer from a Lutheran congregation, or 3) By affirmation of faith · Have taken communion · Made a contribution of record during the current or preceding year, either of 1) Time, 2) Talent, or 3) Treasure Please give prayerful consideration as to what role you feel called to serve in 2027. Pop Tab Charity
POP Tab Collection: A Reminder to save those pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities! Several FELC families and friends through the years have benefitted from the use of these houses when their children were hospitalized. The collection box is always out in the hallway by the office.
Fellowship Hour
Volunteers Needed
Fellowship Hour will resume Sept 13, Rally Day. Volunteers are needed to help provide snacks for this time between Sunday School and Worship Service. Sign up is on the Tri-Board, and thanks for your help!

Food Pantry Collections
The MAM Food Pantry Collection is an ongoing Mary & Martha Women's Group project. Non Perishable Food Items can be donated in the wagon in the hall outside the back of the sanctuary. All items benefit local food Pantries. Thank you for your support to feed the hungry in our community.
